Spotify VS Deezer: Side-by-Side Comparison [Answer]
Spotify is the world’s biggest premium music streaming service, with over 140 million paid users. But on the other hand, Deezer is smaller, with a subscriber base of less than 10 million. But Spotify is much better than its rival, or is this a story similar to that of David and Goliath, in which the underdog wins the fight in the end?
That’s why we’re here to find out. We’ll look at all the differences between the music streaming services and figure out who is the top music streaming service.
Spotify vs. Deezer: Content
Spotify and Deezer both have a library of over 50 million songs. I didn’t see any difference in content comparison. All of my favorite artists and songs are available on both sides. These include all world-famous musicians as well as small bands and DJs.
But music isn’t only the content, which offers from both sides. Both have also featured podcasts, where I saw differences between them. Deezer has a decent collection of podcasts, but Spotify is a step ahead of its rival. Many of the podcasts I listen to are available on Spotify but not on Deezer.
Spotify invests more money in this sector. He recently did a deal with Joe Rogan that will bring his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, exclusively to Spotify. It’s a brilliant move by the Swedish streaming giant, considering the popularity of Rogan’s podcast. His audience choice Spotify to see the Podcast of Joe Rogan.
Both services provide us with several videos but not fronts, like YouTube and Tidal. There are no sections for Videos. But you come across video content when searching for your favorite artist and songs.
Suppose you are happy with the Music content. So, both platforms are best for you. But if you enjoy listening to podcasts and don’t want a separate app, Spotify has the advantage here. Deezer also invests money to bring as many podcasts to its platform as possible. But it’s a little behind Spotify.
Spotify vs. Deezer: Music discovery
Both Music streaming services are Good for Music discovery. Spotify is great in Discover Weekly Playlist, containing songs from artists and genres you usually listen to. You can get it every Monday with 30 Tracks. Both services create mixes daily based on your listen-to habits. There’s also a Release Radar playlist with songs from new releases the service thinks you’ll like.
Deezer’s offering is much better. The service has what it calls Flow, which is an infinite mix of new and your favorite tracks. There is also a Discovery playlist that updates every Monday, full of songs you haven’t listened to yet on Deezer. Then there’s also a playlist full of songs and artists according to your habits and Chill Playlist with songs to listen to while chilling over the weekends.
Both services allow you to browse music by genre and mood. Both services have a lot of playlists available, although it’s hard to find out which one has more playlists. However, quantity isn’t everything.
Overall, I prefer Deezer’s discovery features instead of Spotify. But honestly, it’s not a big difference. Spotify still does a great job here, so I think you’ll be happy with either one.
Spotify vs. Deezer: Audio quality
So, Deezer beat Spotify, But if you’ve prepaid for premium. On the regular, both of them provide us 320kbs streaming, but you can decrease it to save your data.
But unlike Spotify, Deezer also offers you a HIFI plan that gives you high-quality FLAC audio files with a bitrate of 1,411kbps. But you’ll need Good quality headphones to take advantage of the higher audio quality.
Additionally, the Deezer HIFI plan provides you access to 360 Reality Audio tracks by downloading a separate app called 360 by Deezer. 360 Reality Audio is the newest push by Sony. It’s a new way of mixing audio that allows the engineers to make the instruments sound like they’re placed in space around you.
Deezer is the best choice for you if you’re a Melomaniac. But remember, you’ll have to pay 5$ extra to the company for access to the HIFI plan. But if you want to save money, both services are good in their standard plan, and the quality you get with Spotify and Deezer is the same.
Spotify vs. Deezer: Pricing and plans
Both services have a free plan for everyone, where you can listen to songs for free, and the limitations are the same on both Deezer and Spotify. You can only listen in shuffle mode except for a few specific playlists, you can skip six tracks per hour, and you can’t download music for offline listening. But there is a difference in Audio quality, Spotify 160kbs, and Deezer 128kbs.
But when we see premium plans, both provide the same package in the US. A basic subscription costs $9.99 per month or $4.99 if you’re a student. And if you are looking for Family Plan, the accounts are available for up to six devices, and you’ll pay $14.99 for this account.
However, Deezer also provides an annual subscription upfront, saving you around $20.
On the other hand, Spotify has a Duo Premium plan in its lineup that’s primarily aimed at couples. It gives you access to two accounts and comes in at $12.99.
Spotify vs. Deezer: Other differences
There are tons of smaller differences between the two services. Also, for instance, Deezer features a SongCatcher built-in, their version of SoundHound or Shazam. When you’re out and about and listen to an excellent song you aren’t conversant in, all you’ve got to try to do is launch SongCatcher, and it will tell you the name of the song and artist.
The French streaming also provides a good UI, although this comes down to personal preference. It pays artists more than Spotify. So, it’s a good choice, especially for those who are just starting.
On the other hand, Spotify features a Crossfade feature that allows you to create a seamless transition between songs. It also comes with a Gapless mode that tries to eliminate the pause after one song ends and a replacement one starts. Then there’s the mixing with Google Maps and Waze. Suggest that you play, pause or skip tracks while navigating without leaving the app.
Conclusion
In terms of market share, Deezer is different from Spotify. To beat it, Deezer must increase its subscriber to more than 130 million users.
But in the case of Audio quality, music discovery, and general usability, Deezer comes at the top of the list. Its have good Audio quality, Music discovery, but if you pay for a premium. And it is packed with extra features like SongCatcher.
However, Spotify does its job great compared with Deezer. One of the main reasons behind Spotify’s success is Podcast.
These are the main differences between Spotify and Deezer, although there are a few other smaller ones. If we miss someone so, tell us in a comment. Thanks.

Spotify is the best podcast app. Deezer has a decent podcast collection, but Spotify is a step ahead. 😉
