Pete Lau Talk About Future OnePlus 2.0, OxygenOS 12, Integrated OS, And Camera Experience

Pete Lau, Chief product officer of OPPO and founder of OnePlus, shared an article in which he talked about the future strategy. Pete Lau said that with the OnePlus and OPPO, OnePlus has already entered the OnePlus 2.0 phase. He believes that OnePlus is now a more  committed technology brand  to continue bringing top-quality technology to users around the globe.

In terms of product tactics, OnePlus introduced new product series in the regional area beginning last year, which received good feedback from the market, and will continue introducing users to a high-quality experience at multiple price points, together with even more high competition pricing.

If we’re looking for camera experience, last year, OnePlus started focusing more on developing boost camera experience through our strategic investment in camera tech and our partnership with Hasselblad for the flagship products. And also, In the future, OnePlus will double down on its commitment to our camera, specifically in 3 areas.

Creating a great and frightening user experience at the very basal level.

Keep focusing on improving color performance together with Hasselblad, the industry leader in color, with customized sensors and lenses.

Investing in the analysis and development of a range of new and latest technologies will take the camera experience to new heights for our users.

However, the product strategy and camera experience, Pete Lau also said about the future of OxygenOS. Pete Lau said, “I would like to start with the codebase merging of OxygenOS 12 and ColorOS 12. When we’re planning for Android 12 last year, the two teams already begin sharing a more comparable pursuit for the software experience: fast, smooth, simple, and stable. With the codebase merging, OxygenOS 12 build quality we see the improvement, and also the software updates are more timely. And I also would like to talk about the software, with the over time we’ve seen that these two operating systems have been gradually converging in terms of the fundamental user experience.”

To provide a better software experience and timely updates, Oppo and OnePlus decided to merge the OxygenOS and ColorOS  teams to plan the future software experience together. By merging software resources to focus on one united and upgraded operating system for both OnePlus and OPPO devices worldwide, OnePlus and OPPO will combine the strengths from both into one even more powerful OS: The fast and smooth experience of OxygenOS, and the stability and rich features of ColorOS. 

The operating system will keep the smoothness of OxygenOS while also providing us with an upgraded experience overall. Pete Lau also said that OnePlus’s unique group of users would customize the OS specifically for OnePlus devices to ensure it meets current users’ expectations, for example, by keeping it clean and smooth.

In terms of the plan for OnePlus devices, OnePlus will first introduce the merged OS with the launch of the next flagship OnePlus series in 2022. The OS  will be fully completed with the next major android upgrade in 2022. And OnePlus will also share more details and dates about when specific devices will receive the new OS.
